Giving Tuesday (start now!)

Updated: Nov 30, 2018

As the holiday season enters full swing, it can be easy to get caught up in mindless purchasing. One of the best ideas to come out of the Holiday Shopping Commandments is Giving Tuesday.

Here are a few awesome Tennessee non-profits that you can shop from or donate to:

Tennessee Parks & Greenways Foundation

The mission of this land-conserving non-profit is simple: "To conserve land where people and nature can thrive." Over the years, they've helped protect and connect thousands of acres of land across our state. If you love the natural beauty of Tennessee, this is a wonderful non-profit to support. Click here to learn more, or click here to donate.

TennGreen offers multiple opportunities throughout the year to explore the natural wonders of Tennessee.

Soundforest

This tree-planting non-profit is near and dear to our hearts. Executive Director Tom Solinsky is a wonderful friend, and has planted over 25,000 trees in Middle Tennessee.

"Working with individuals, businesses, communities, schools, and municipalities we encourage a more sustainable lifestyle and operating procedures."

Thistle Farms

If you're looking to support a non-profit that directly improves the Nashville community, look no further than Thistle Farms. They've been giving trafficked, prostituted, and addicted women a hand up for twenty years, helping them rebuild their self-worth and their lives. You can donate, shop their (awesome) products, or head to their cafe on Charlotte Avenue to support their mission: "Love is the most powerful force in the world because love has the power to heal."

Resilience Butte County Proud IPA

The fires in California are hard to fathom from across the country, but they are very real and devastating for our fellow countrypeople. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is brewing a fundraiser IPA and donating all of the proceeds to their Camp Fire Relief Fund. They're also asking other brewers to do the same. So far, over 1000 breweries around the country are on board, including Nashville's own Black Abbey, Jackalope, Tailgate, and Yazoo. Keep your eyes open for this beer in your local taproom-the growing list of breweries is here on their website.

Even if none of these options appeal to you, there are plenty of other places that could use a boost: museums, radio stations, theaters, hospitals, shelters, food banks, and more. Giving Tuesday is the perfect springboard to start giving throughout the year, so have fun choosing and sharing!
