Home Sweet Home

Today, June 7, 2018, marks my nine year anniversary of living in Nashville. It's the longest I've ever lived in one spot in my life (I lived in Chicago just shy of ten years, but switched apartments almost every year), and I still feel like I'm unpacking!

I didn't move to Nashville for art or music or a change of scenery, I moved here for love. After reconnecting with an old friend in my now-husband, Bill Davis, I visited him in Nashville, we fell head-over-heels for each other, and I was living in Nashville within a few months.

I've been so lucky to have made some incredible friends while I'm here. Nashville is a remarkably open and friendly city, but finding those few true friends can be a challenge. It's taken some time, but good things come to those who wait.

This isn't to say I don't get homesick. I miss my BFF, my family, and the dynamic buzz of living in a major metropolitan area. I miss living a car-free life, which might sound silly, but car ownership is a financial suck and a headache. I won't get into the insanity of driving in a city as full of out-of-towers (myself included) as Nashville.

One thing is certain, I wouldn't have re-discovered my love for performing, nor would I have the kind of career I've built since living in Nashville. The creative community here is second to none, and the encouragement I've received from all kinds of avenues-both expected and from out of left field-has earned Nashville the title of "Home" to me. I don't talk about going home when we visit family and friends in Chicago, I talk about going home when we leave the city to return to Nashville.

I have no idea what the future holds; I may be here in Nashville on The Davis Estate for the rest of my life, or I may end up relocating again for whatever reason. Either way, I'm enjoying my life, the community that's around me, and the growth that's come with being in an It City. I landed where I belong.

Below are some images of some of the more choice imagery from over the years. There are dozens more, but this is a fun selection.
